The Magician’s Trick, is a delightful micro-history of analog projected spectacle aimed at both the brain and the heart. Curtis Godino combines the ethos of 18th-century magic lanterns with the hardware of 1980s classroom slideshows. Using a phalanx of 35-millimeter carousel projectors loaded with slides he has designed, printed and colored himself, Godino mixes the output of these projectors into a play-philosophical narrative of trickery and the semi-surreal, using vintage projection faders in real time, like a visual DJ, from behind his purpose-built roadshow hutch. Curtis Godino is a musician and light artist currently based in Nashville, TN. He has performed liquid light shows as Drippy Eye projections and has performed as a member of the legendary Joshua Light Show. His musical projects include the bands Worthless, Crystal Egg, and he has collaborated with artist Gary Panter in the bands Devin, Gary and Ross and Twigs of Sister Tomorrow. Godino occasionally publishes absurdist novelties in small art editions and hand painted t-shirts under the banner of Jester's Trading Corp.
