Morgan O’Kane and Phillip Roebuck LIVE!
Morgan O’Kane and Phillip Roebuck will be performing live at Institute 193 as part of the North of Center Music Series. The show is scheduled for May 17, 2010 at 10PM. You won’t want to miss this…. RSVP on the Institute’s Facebook page or just show up.
PHILLIP ROEBUCK is a Virginia-born, New York-bred songster and bare bones one-man band. With punk rock intensity, Roebuck plays a classic depression-era drum apparatus and a banjo with a fierce ragged-but-right style to create a sound that blurs the line between genres.
MORGAN O’KANE is an exuberant and intensely talented musician from Charlottesville, Virginia. His distinct sound is an evolution of his work with“scum billy” band Casa De Chihuahua and time spent playing in the New York Subway system. In 2010 Morgan is emerging above ground, equipped with a suitcase, kick pedal, banjo, a sense of urgency and a debut full length recording, “Nine Lives”. From the Mountaintop removal protests of West Virginia, to the clubs of Williamsburg/Brooklyn, to the pubs of Belfast and through Holland and back again, these days O’kane’s soulful war cry can be heard for miles. A capable one man band, Morgan is often accompanied around the globe by a revolving door of inspirational musicians such as fiddle player Ferd Moyse of the Hackensaw boys, Dobro player Ezekiel Healy, Banjo “ninja” Philip Roebuck, singer/songwriters Domino Kirke, Zack Orion, and cellist Ben Sollee. After hearing Morgan’s first full length release “Nine Lives” your sorrows will be drowned, your spirits lifted, and all your ideas of what it means to play the banjo will be dismantled.
